Year
2019-2020
As a natural-bred environmentalist, Tara Kursinsky uses her passion for the outdoors to explore ideas of spatial environments and action-research. By bridging the gap between urban planning, architectural design and research, she hopes to provide greater connections between users and the environment, while reducing our global footprint. On the side of her design work one can find Tara hiking throughout Scotland and skiing, another tribute of hers towards the environment.
INSIGHT
One book or reading recommendation?
Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer, it allows you to understand a way of living rooted in the indigenous culture of Native American tribes through gratitude. Through this book you can heal or create a bond with nature around you and the things you own.
What do you think is the role of design for change?
Design for Change has the potential to challenge all of our preconceived notions of life. It is a necessary entity within every system, organization and business in a time when systems are fragile, and people are looking for a new route. Change designers are the leaders to help uplift others and guide them towards solutions that may appear provocative.
Where are you working/ where do you see yourself working?
Tara is currently working at Michael Laird Architects as a Workplace Consultant/Interior Designer. This allows her to blend her previous discipline of interior architecture with her design research skills to hopefully impact the field of architecture through guiding clients to environmental solutions and offering forward thinking research on the role of spaces in the climate crisis.
