The Intravention Project: Growing
Design for
Science Popularization, The Environment
Year
2020-2021
This Intravention Project (for the course ‘dLab3’) acts within the environmental education system, mainly aiming at the young people and general audience. It is designed for situations out of school but could also be put into the environmental education in school as a kind of supplement.
It is a combination of the mobile game and physical activities which aims to bridge the digital and physical world. In the mobile game, the player can experience how a plant lives its life. The instruction of the game is from the perspectives of plants to encourage empathy. The mobile games aim to spread information to people and connect people with each other and the plants in nature while physical activities encouraging players to interact directly with the plants around them and build communities for learning about plants and the environment.
Insight
Did your project evolve in unexpected ways?
Yes. In this course I observed the dandelions. The outcome is related to my companion species in a more abstract way than I assumed.
Do you think this project can be scaled up?
Yes, I hope it could be a continuous project spreading from young people to more audiences of different groups. With the Internet, it has the potential to spread all over the world, cooperating with offline activities in the local community.
What was your biggest takeaway learning from this project?
To observe the environment around me and learn from them.
