The Creative Edinburgh Awards celebrates the city’s creative community, highlighting the projects, places and people that have flourished across Edinburgh for the past year. Seed Sprout Change was not only shortlisted, but won The Social Award 2020.
Seed Sprout Change germinated from a group project during Design for Environmental Change. Its group members are Tara Kursinsky, Rachele Cavina, Ellie Horwood, Chang Cheng, and Jess Parker. Seed Sprout Change sought to reconnect individuals with nature during the first lockdown in early 2020. Through the planting of seeds and regrowing of vegetables, the project included the design and distribution of Gardening Kits, the curation of an online community to share knowledge with others and the utilisation of neglected spaces that had the potential for gardening.
The Social Award recognises projects and people that use creativity to pioneer ideas, create change and support and engage communities. It was an unexpected surprise for the group with Tara having to deliver unprepared thanks to the Zoom audience. Seed Sprout Change was shortlisted with other inspiring and hardworking creatives such as WanderWomen Scotland, Wee Inventors, and WHALE Arts.
